This is What a Winner Looks Like

Last week was volleyball open gym and tryouts.

Rebekah did both.

She doesn't like being like her sister,

and was a little apprehensive about following in her footsteps,

but she persevered anyway, and tried out for the team.

On the first day of tryouts,

she didn't get cut - she was beaming.

The next day, however,

she and two other girls were cut from the team.

Yep, she was a little disappointed,

didn't really want to talk about it very much,

and wasn't so sure that she would take the volleyball manager

position that was offered to the 3 of them,

but . . .

she decided to be manager anyway,

so she could practice with the team,

and improve her skills.

Many of the girls had been on club teams,

and it was amazing to us, that Rebekah was able to compete fairly well with them.

She needs to work on her overhand serves,

she recognizes that in herself,

and she'll work towards it.

On Monday, she showed up for practice

as the manager, and neither of the other 2 girls came -

they quit.

I'm so proud of you, Rebekah!

For not being a quiter,

for trying something hard (when failure was an option),

for sticking with it,

and having a good attitude,

for deciding to show humility, and teachability

rather than indignant pride with an unwillingness to learn more.

The season hasn't even officially started . . .

and already, Rebekah, . . .
