A New Day

A little clarification:
James is a GREAT kid.
His teachers love him.
And WE love him!
He gets compliments for having great manners.
Etc.
He has a few things going on with him, though.
I won't go into it all,
but you add the fact that he missed some
important bonding before he joined us,
and well, he takes a lot out on the ones that
he trusts the most.
Though it's frustrating, and not terribly fun,
I understand it, and can usually see it for what
it is.
The good news?
The past few intense days with him,
has allowed him to trust us again,
to still love him despite what he throws
our direction.
The melting began
at the end of Sacrament Meeting
when, feeling bad for what had happened,
he sat on my lap, and let me rock him
like he was a baby.
We still had a couple of intense days ahead of us,
but then yesterday afternoon,
he went to Rebekah's basketball game with only
a small verbal complaint, and sat through the
game, very well behaved.
After a bit of a meltdown about wanting cookies
at 8:30 at night, he allowed me to hold him
as we talked, and let me trace his facial features
with my finger as he fell asleep.
That was BIG!!!
Then this morning, he got ready for school,
without a struggle or a fight.
Before he went to bed last night,
he had made himself a list:
Wak uq (wake up)
geT brest (get dressed)
brush TeeTh.
geT pak Pak. (get back-pack)
go To School.
He also made himself some bathroom charts,
and had 2 dry nights in a row.
Progress is being made - it just doesn't always look like it!
*Thanks for everyone's comments of love and support! I appreciate having such good friends!
