Happy Halloween!

Rebekah has wanted to be Tinkerbell for a long time. Finally on her last year of Trick-or-Treating her wish was granted! Doesn't she sparkle? And they say that girls are the indecisive ones? Joseph went from not wanting a costume (only a t-shirt that said "Out of candy. Need refill.") to Avatar, and then at the last minute became Anakin from Star Wars. James went from a scarecrow, to a spooky ghost, and then at the last, last minute (after Joseph made up his mind) also chose to be Anakin from Star Wars - although he looks more like Luke, and Joseph didn't want him copying who he was portraying. So for the record, we'll just say they were a bunch of Star Wars guys! Dreamy ones too! Next up is Little Man Jalen as a BYU baseball player. My team you ask? Well of course, I'm sporting my Brewer's jersey and hat. One of my favorite photos of the night was Tinkerbell vs. a Jedi . . . (I'm not sure who won) As expected, the kids had a good time. The parents? Well, we wondered half the time why we hadn't encouraged a different Halloween tradition a long time ago. It just gets loud, dark, crowded, and we're left feeling like we've lost half our family half the time - not to mention how late it is, and how hard that is on a baby. Oh well, Halloween comes but once a year! This morning everyone was a little sluggish trying to get ready for school (and they didn't even eat that much candy lastnight - HONEST!) James particularly had a rough time getting going. As a part of his Fall Festivities party at school, the kids were asked to dress up like what they wanted to be when they grew up. James dressed up as a missionary. Everyone was trying to guess what he was, all except Heath Alger (who is in our ward), who piped up, "He's a missionary of course!" and then with disgust, "You guys don't even know what a missionary is!" I helped with James' party. I helped with the musical stars group (basically musical chairs). As each person got out of the game, I asked them their name, their teacher's name, and what they wanted to be when they grew up. I think the kids liked that personal attention more than they actually liked the games. Out of all 4 kindergarten classes, only one girl said she wanted to be a mom (and she was carrying around 3 baby dolls), and 2 boys said they wanted to be a dad (one was James). That made me a little sad. That is always what I've wanted to be, my whole life, was a Mom. But I think, society now doesn't encourage motherhood/fatherhood as a worthy "career." But for me, I always wanted to be a Mom, and how blessed I am to have gotten my wish, many times over.
